Transformers rely on high-quality insulating oil for electrical insulation and heat dissipation. Over time, that oil degrades and becomes contaminated, which traditionally created a disposal and waste challenge. ETEL’s oil regeneration programme takes a different approach: we collect used oil, regenerate it back to a quality equivalent to virgin oil, and reuse it in new transformers supporting circular economy outcomes.

With a processing capacity of up to 750,000 litres per year, the facility has already recovered and recycled more than 120,000 litres of used transformer oil (reported December 2025). This initiative reduces the volume of waste oil requiring disposal, decreases reliance on the production and supply of new oil and its associated environmental impacts, and supports circular economy objectives by helping organisations reduce their environmental footprint.
