Sustainability

Practical steps, measured impact

Sustainability at ETEL is focused on how we design, manufacture, and support distribution transformers in ways that reduce environmental impact over their lifecycle — while maintaining the performance and reliability our customers depend on.

As part of the Unison Group, our approach aligns with the Group’s sustainability direction across people, communities, environmental impact, and resilience.

What we focus on

Circular solutions

We’re building circular practices into our operations — including regenerating used transformer oil and returning it to virgin-quality standards for reuse across critical power infrastructure and long-term energy distribution networks.

Efficient manufacturing

We’re improving visibility of the emissions and materials that sit behind manufacturing, so we can target the areas that matter most — including energy use, operational efficiency, responsible sourcing practices, and waste streams.

Product lifecycle & performance

Long-lasting equipment supports long-term sustainability outcomes. ETEL’s service capability helps assess, maintain, repair, and refurbish distribution transformers — supporting reliability and extending useful life where appropriate

Featured initiatives

ETEL’s oil regeneration programme

ETEL’s oil regeneration programme recovers and reprocesses degraded transformer oil, returning it to a quality equivalent to virgin oil — reducing waste, extending material lifespan, minimising environmental impact, and supporting a more sustainable circular economy.

Measuring our GHG footprint

ETEL’s first greenhouse gas emissions inventory report documents our carbon footprint for FY2023/24 (1 April 2023 – 31 March 2024) across direct emissions (scope 1), purchased electricity (scope 2), and key supply chain categories (scope 3).
